With Winter Weather in the forecast, calling for the yuck that keeps you home from work, it might be time to check out how to access your company computer from home. They all require some setup at the office, so best to do this before the storm hits. Assuming your company will have power during and after the storm, you can use a remote access service such as gotomypc.com or logmein.com. These sites will give you all the instructions to install software on your work computer to allow remote access from your computer at home or elsewhere.
Let’s cover my favorite: www.logmein.com. You can start at their home page and select the Pro option at the bottom of the screen or just go directly to this url: https://secure.logmein.com/US/welcome/pro2/?wt.ac=1-2 and click the Try for Free button on the right.
You will want to do this from your work computer first. Follow the instructions to set up your remote access software. In this process you will be requires to create a login email address and password. Be sure you use something you can remember when you get home. You may also be asked for an Access Code during this process. It is very important too. You will need all of this information when you are at home trying to access your work computer.
Assuming your office electric is still running great, your computer stays on during the storm, the office internet is still working, and all the same is still good for you at your house; you will be all set to work from home. Just remember, this means you can now work from home at a minutes notice after hours and on the weekends too. Might want to check with the bosses to make sure it is all okay with them as well.
If you are really feeling adventurous check with you better half while you are at it to make sure they approve also.If you have a habit of working too much, this will not help you any. While you are getting approved to do all this, you also might want to consider, if you have an IT Department, letting them know too. There may be some rules you have to follow there as well.
